Icon of Wales No. 12 – Sweet Red Wine Finish Whisky

Nose: Floral & Fruity. Scent of orange blossom, notes of peaches, cherries and orange peel. Sweet vanilla and honey, with a light spice of dried fruits.

Palate: Luscious mouthfeel. Rich sweetness of caramel and honey. Bouquet of dried fruits, raisins, figs and light oak spices.

Finish: Dry oak remains, with a citrus sweetness and a dust of cocoa to the end.

Penderyn Whisky, The Headliner

The 9th in Penderyn’s Icons of Wales Edition whiskies is called The Headliner. The only Welsh Prime Minister, David Lloyd George (1863-1945), was a social reformer and accidentally established the premium whisky industry. He became a symbol of the national reawakening of Wales, and created more headlines than any other 20th century statesman.

This 70cl bottle has an abv of 46%, and is matured in Jamaican Rum & Ruby Port Casks.

Notes of red fruit and cream, vanilla and spice. Sweet with rich flavours of dried fruits and pepper on the finish.

The single malt is light and fruity with subtle complexity, then married with their natural spring water and then put into an ex bourbon cask first to then be put into hand selected ex ruby port casks.

Aromas of rich dried fruits with dark chocolate and cranberries; a hint of oak with baked nuts. Rich and creamy with a touch of honey and spice. Finished with a gentle soft oak and a little sweetness.
