This winery dates back to 1751 and has been family-owned ever since. The present Johann Topf took over the family winery from his father in 1990, who was one of the first winemakers in Strass to bottle his own wines. The estate has now grown to cover nearly 50 hectares around the village, luckily, his four sons are as passionate about the business and all work in the winery. The vineyards are in the Kamptal region just north of the Danube in Eastern Austria. The slopes have been specially selected for the different grape varieties.
Johann Topf, Riesling, Wechselberg
£21.20 Per Bottle
An interesting, single-vineyard Riesling with grapefruit and floral notes.
Description
Sourced from Ried Wechselberg, a south-facing hillside with elevations over 320 meters with complex soils dominated by granite, slate, gneiss, and layers of quartzite and marble, which contribute to the wine’s intense mineral facets.
Expressive notes of grapefruit, lemongrass, lime, and kiwi, complemented by subtle hints of blossom honey, musk, and forest floor. Medium-bodied, dry with vibrant acidity and great length. Good for baked fish or Asian dishes.
