This winery dates back to 1751 and has been family-owned ever since. The present Johann Topf took over the family winery from his father in 1990, who was one of the first winemakers in Strass to bottle his own wines. The estate has now grown to cover nearly 50 hectares around the village, luckily, his four sons are as passionate about the business and all work in the winery. The vineyards are in the Kamptal region just north of the Danube in Eastern Austria. The slopes have been specially selected for the different grape varieties.
Johann Topf, Zweigelt
£15.50 Per Bottle
Medium-bodied red with plenty of red cherry fruit and soft tannins..
Description
Produced from 100% Zweigelt grapes grown on loamy soils in the Strassertal area. Ripe grapes are harvested by hand and, after pressing, aged for three months in large oak barrels before being bottled.
The bouquet is aromatic with prominent notes of ripe sour cherries and plums, subtly layered with fine toasted notes of coffee and cinnamon derived from barrel aging. Velvety tannins and vibrant acidity on the palate.
