This winery dates back to 1751 and has been family-owned ever since. The present Johann Topf took over the family winery from his father in 1990, who was one of the first winemakers in Strass to bottle his own wines. The estate has now grown to cover nearly 50 hectares around the village, luckily, his four sons are as passionate about the business and all work in the winery. The vineyards are in the Kamptal region just north of the Danube in Eastern Austria. The slopes have been specially selected for the different grape varieties.
Johann Topf, Gruner Veltliner, Wechselberg
£21.80 Per Bottle
Great with food, crisp, complex with a savoury edge.
Description
A refined single-vineyard wine from the Kamptal region, shaped by the high-altitude (320m) primary rock soils of the Wechselberg vineyard.
The nose reveals subtle meadow herbs, delicate yellow apple, and fresh notes of peach, grapefruit, and celery. You may also find hints of candied citrus zest and acacia honey in the background. It is dry, complex and medium-bodied with a distinctive mineral finish.
