One of the world’s great winemakers, John Duval was given the ‘Grange’ torch by Max Schubert, the man who created Australia’s most famous wine. John passed it on to his successor when he left Penfolds in 2003 to start his own label. He sources fruit from long-time friends in the Barossa, all of whom own vineyards with vines aged from 50 to 100 years old. The wines are made with minimal intervention and showcase the best of the Barossa.

Description
Grapes are sourced from specific sub-regions: Roussanne (57%) from Kalimna, Marsanne (31%) from Marananga, and Viognier (12%) from the higher-altitude Eden Valley.
- A portion of the Marsanne and the Viognier is transferred to finish fermentation in oak.
- Oak Aging: Approximately 20% of the total blend is aged in fine-grain French oak (primarily older puncheons to avoid overwhelming the fruit) for a period of 7 months.
- Lees Contact: The remaining portions of the Marsanne and Roussanne are aged on their fine lees in tank until bottling. This “sur lie” aging enhances the wine’s mid-palate weight and creamy texture.
Aromas of stone fruits, honeysuckle and dried apricot on the nose. This wine is medium bodied with good texture, dry finish and balanced acidity. Rich flavours of nectarine, mandarin and pear make for good food pairings with seafood and white meats.
